  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1975)
In my search for info on my trim tab debacle, I've spoken with Jeremy at Sam's, Brian at Insta-Trim, and called Hatteras to see if they could provide prints of the vessel. Jeremy and Brian were great sources of info as expected, put me in touch with Ed Tysenn too. Calling Hatteras was a different experience all together. First off its white river marine one is calling and Hatteras isn't even mentioned in the seven-option directory. The operator knew nothing and was just a functionary. It was as if Hatteras is an afterthought and for all intents and purposes has ceased to exist. Hull number, as opposed to serial number which he requested of me, was nearly a bridge too far. The polar opposite of Jim's recent cummins experience. Unfortunate turn of events.

I wonder if you could still call or e-mail Hatt support directly?
Do you have C D Pinners contact info?

I do not. Certainly open to getting past the call center. Thank you

I tried getting through several times last spring and gave up. I was looking for wiring diagrams.

Hatteras is pretty much gone since the company was bought a couple of years ago. I don’t think they ve built anything since. A real shame.

He was still there 6 weeks ago.

I spoke with him about that same time frame. He said he plans to leave the end of this year. That is a big loss as he is pretty much the last one there that has any historical knowledge of our boats.

Then anybody that does not have a print set for their Hatt, better get it ordered soon.
I started working with Paul Hall many, many years ago. Worked with Vicky Couch on & off for a few years.
When C D is gone, all Hatt support is gone.
Amazing how fast a large mfg company can get flushed away.

It’s only the beginning I asked at the Lauderdale show what Hatteras status was and I got some bs that they were going to start on some GT series in the spring but I don’t think it was ever the plan to keep Hatt up and running. They just wanted the real estate and the manufacturing plant. I’m sure there’s a lot more profit in bass boats than Hatterases. I remember 93 S&L debacle along with the luxury tax on boats killed Bertram and a bunch of other boat mfg. Hatteras barely survived then. After 911 then 08 I always thought Hatteras was a survivor but I guess no one loves forever

Think you're correct on your thoughts regarding the real plan with buying "Hatteras", probably received some state grants as part of the "promise" to keep it going. Looking back the tell was when they destroyed all the molds and especially when they crushed the almost brand new molds for the GT's.

They did a pretty crazy restoration job on Knit Wits though, and said there is a bunch of stuff in store for Hatteras upcoming in that video.

Any thoughts on that?

My thought is they bought Hatteras over 3 years ago and have basically delivered no new boats except the ones that had already been started. At the 2022 Palm Beach show they borrowed a 2 or 3 year old boat from an owner to have something there, don't remember them being there in 2023. This year for Lauderdale they rolled out Knit Wits with another redo, been there done that a bunch of times. Today's development timetable for new boat models is much shorter than the heydays of Hatteras with CAD, CNC mold making, etc. Where's the product, where's the photos/video of boats in various stages of production? Albemarle just rolled out a 53 sportfish, did take them 2 years, but they pumped out progress photos/video the whole time. Viking is basically sold out for 2 years, all the custom sportfish builders are pretty much booked for years too. The only big boat production sportfish builder with a decent product is Viking so there should be room for another one.....

Given the thriving business in big convertibles, you would think Hatteras would get in on the action. But everything I've heard for 2-3 years has been grim. I hope they can get their act together, but at this point I'm not holding my breath. I hope I'm wrong.
