i loved the movie, one of my all time favorites. So many good one liners it's hard to count. The boat is listed on Yachtworld as well. Dick Phillips has it listed through Reel Deel Yachts. I'm assuming Dick is related to Herb Phillips who first built these boats and imported them to the USA. Does anyone know if it's his son or if he has any relation at all. Herb did tell me 20 years ago now, that it was his son who ran what was then a new 60 for the movie.
I know there were some major legal issues about the naming rights and a few other things that Herb was caught up in there at the end of his run but I don't know all the details. What I do know though is this. Herb was an very interesting and good person to know. When it came to anything related to the marine industry he was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed listening to his stories. I was just a young early 20's something year old kid in the mid 90's and he is one of the many people that helped me get started in the industry. He had me part time help care for, and move around some of his listings from time to time. He was a nice guy to me who made sure to always take the time to share a few story's along with a ton of insight.
I just remember the first time I ever stepped onto a Striker I didn't feel like I was stepping onto a typical boat, but more like I was stepping onto a little ship. The 70 was Huge to me at the time and is still a big boat even by today's standards. But the boat was solid and very stable. It seemed like 10 of me could've jumped on it at once and it still wouldn't rock. I'm not a fan of aluminum, but I always Liked the look of a Striker. They had great lines, low cockpit freeboard, tons of beam, nice long Bows, and nice safe walkaround decks.
The 70 was my favorite Striker, it was beautiful and had just about perfect proportions with a nice shallow draft and a ton of fuel. Seems like it would be a great boat for the traveling sportfish enthusiast. http://www.golfchannel.com/news/grill-room/rodney-dangerfields-yacht-caddyshack-sale/
