  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' MOTOR YACHT (1984 - 1987)
Recently we have mounted a digital tv antenna and trying to watch local tv. I think my connector is faulty from the outside and thought I would trouble shoot this fitting. To do this I tried talking the whole cover off the side of the boat by removing the 4 screws. The whole cover assembly is struck like something is holding it in place inside the boat. I tried to take a panel off inside the boat to gain access but couldn't get to it. There must be another way of removing this cover. I hated to pry super hard with the screw driver, thinking I was going to break something. Any ideas?

When I took mine off , there were only the TV cable and the telephone wires connected to the other side. Perhaps the black gasket is holding on from being there for so long. On my boat there is a panel next to the fittings so you could see the back. Good luck Ron

Yes I see the black gasket and kinda hated to pry too hard. There seems to be the TV cable and above, some other type connection (dont what it is). I cant see anything else to hold it on the side of the boat once the 4 screws are removed. Maybe I should pry harder. The crazy thing is that it doesnt even budge when prying with a screw driver. Thats why I am wondering if something is holding it from the back. Like I said getting to the back is virtually impossible.

Hopefully the prior owner didn't put 5200 to seal it. If that's not the case there are no other screws that I know of holding it in place. Try tapping it with a hard plastic hammer to loosen it up. Put blue tape all over the fiber glass to protect it just in case you're not accurate with the hammer. Good luck.

Some people think 5200 is the answer to everything. You may want tp get some de-bonder or use a 1" flexible putty knife and work your way around it. There's nothing other than the 4 screws to hold it on.

X2 on the putty knife method. Find a putty knife that has the blade that in sandwiched in the handle. You need to tap the knife in and around the fitting. Put some blue painters masking tape on the paint around the fitting so the knife dosent mar the paint. Work your way around the fitting and it should pop off.

Thanks for the replies. I cant imagine they would put 5200 on there. I'll try the putty knife. The blue tape is a good idea.

Wait till you try to get to the stbd bilge blower. I gave up.

I've looked for it too. They must have built the whole boat around that blower. I cant even get a glimpse of it.

Multiple layers of blue tape. Take your time and you'll prevail. It might take a while, though. Been there.

Sorry about the hijack but I have seen it and put my hand on it. Otherwise impossible without ripping up the coat locker (I think).

If your 43 is like my 48, your blowers may be in a similar location. I have shallow cabinets on both sides of the salon. These are removed by removing the screws that hold the trim to the wall panels. The cabinets then simply lift out and voila, the blowers are easily accessed.

The port side may be easy by removing a panel. The Strb side is a real bugger. Its located behind the A/C panel and hard to even see much less remove it. Just like Dan said.
