Just a FYI. I filed suit in Lauderdale yesterday to recoup my out of pocket expenses via gross misrepresentation of that Broward. If I win, I won’t even break even given what I’ll spend flying back down, but what the heck, it’ll be boat show time in Miami.

It’s definitely an issue of principle over profit, and I may end up having to make two appearances. Small claims cases are weird there for sure in that you go to some sort of pre-trial hearing to see if things can be settled. Seems to me it should be obvious things couldn’t be settled if one goes to the aggravation and expense of filing a suit.

I’ve heard several interesting stories relating to Linda Krantz DBA Luxury Yachts International (interesting site to visit), so if you have any you would like to share, PM’s are good, and my email/contact information is available through links on my signature. Ironically enough, I had further examples of such behavior in my own email history with her. I had forgotten she sent Robby and Brenda on a thousand dollar, wild goose chase when they were looking for a replacement for their 43DC that was lost to fire.

She promised to reimburse them for their out of pocket expenses but never did. In this case, she invited me to sue her for my $287 expenses, so it would have been impolite of me to decline. :)

FWIW I’m back to looking at Hatt’s in the 70-80’ range. This despite what HOF’er Paul45C told me at lunch a couple of days ago…

“Don’t be a coward, buy a Broward.”

Why not just go and look at it and make an appropriate lower offer? And while up in the area, look at other boats, ahem I mean yachts.

You really don't want a Broward at any price. The very early ones and the very late ones were okay, but everything in between has the quality control of a Chevy Vega built the morning after St. Patrick's day. The hull construction and basic design are okay because they hired Jack Hargrave for that, and the engines are okay because they came with Detroits, but everything else that gives you assache on most boats, electrical, plumbing, etc., is famously subpar.

If you file a written complaint with the Yacht &Ship division of the Florida Bureau of Regulation, they Will immediately reimburse you from her Brokers Bond, then it’s up to the broker to prove to them that you were wrong. Easy Peezy.

I haven’t yet filed a complaint as I just heard about that department a couple of days ago.

That’s the first I’ve heard that they will directly reimburse anyone who files such a complaint. That really doesn’t sound fair to me if that’s truly the case.

It’s a pretty thin piece of ham that doesn’t have 2 sides, they just arbitrarily decide who’s right?

Well I know one thing for sure. I don't blame you for going after her. The game of "look at this great boat" with 5 or 10 year old pictures seems to be the norm with a lot of listings. It really wouldn't hurt if there were some accountability regarding this. The brokers could at least say: "These pictures were provided by the seller and were from 1986" or something to let you know your looking at past pictures.

The other thing that sort of bothers me about boat listings is the lack of information about when it was put on the market. Could be "new pics" at the time of listing, but it's also been on the market for 5 years. Just put dates on the pictures! Save everyone the headache of finding out in person and all the disappointment that comes with that.

So... Go Randy!

If we had a creative writing award on the HOF, this would win it.

Agreed.
