1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series I (1966 - 1969)
Getting tired of hydros and tank filling. I was looking at the electric units for working on the bottom at the dock. I never liked the idea of the gas powered ones but lots of people use them here as an alternative to snorkeling. Anyone have any experience with these?

I run my second stage straight from the oil-less air compressor on board, thru a fine stone filter.
Purchased 50' mini hose from my dive shop with some fittings. Used a spare second and never had a problem. Hose goes out the ER hull side vents, have full reach to both ends of the boat.

In the islands I nap with the barracuda under our boat.

How many PSI do you need to go directly to the regulator like that? Not much, right? I ask because my boat came with a RhineAir compressor which are used by fireman and in painting booths, etc. The max is only 15PSI. I guess the PO was thinking about using it for cleaning the bottom? Maybe that could go right to a regulator?

And barracudas freak me out.

Scuba second stage regulators work to 150 psi. I have no idea what the minimum is.
There is a CFM spec but I would be poorly guessing at that.
My ships compressor first regulator is set to 90 psi.
Since I'm not deep diving, It works great and never felt lacking of air when working under ours or the next boat.

15psi may work but probably a free flowing air source (face mask or helmet). I would contact that mfg directly.

When we lived in Mexico, the divers used regular oil compressors but put vegetable oil in them so they did not die while cleaning bottoms.

Yeah, I'll donate it to the fire dept and buy a proper hookah. Needs more than a free flowing 15psi.

Any fish I remember my granddad telling me not to wear reflective clothing and to move slowly around so you don't get bit is not something I'm getting in the water with. You've got bigger balls than me. I'll stand on the dock with my drink and offer moral support :D

Yea, stories of dog-tags and shinny rings.
I worry more over moray ells and nurse sharks, that I used to nap with also.
My back got more relaxed with the cudas around though.

Sadly, I have not been down in a while.
Every time I think were off to vacation, something comes up.

All this talk of going under reminds me of something else to ad to the Bertie's work list; Service dive equipment. It's been a while..
Darn list keeps getting longer.

Cudas are cool.
It's Sand-Tiger sharks, while diving the Anna many years ago, that stained my shorts..
Found this ole joke;
Two great white sharks swimming in the ocean spied survivors of a sunken ship.

"Follow me son", the father shark said to the son shark and they swam towards the mass of people. "First we swim around them a few times with just the tip of our fins showing."

And they did.

"Well done, son! Now we swim around them a few times with all of our fins showing."

And they did.

"Now we eat everybody."

And they did, and when they were both gorged, the son asked, "Dad, why didn't we just eat them all at first ? Why did we swim around and around them ?"

His wise father replied, "because they taste better if you scare the crap out of them first!"

I have an electric brownies third lung for about 15 years - it works well! . It’s not used very often but helped me once when I entangled an old wreck with my anchor in Tobago. My teen and preteen kids use it now in shallow water.

Recently I learned that hospitals use compressed air, and have some high-end German oilless compressors in the basement.

When they timed out for replacement (life equipment) they had a hard time selling the old units on eBay because they are 220V.

Guess who has a 220V Hatteras and bought two just because they were such a good deal?

DAN

Oh, any more??

Sadly, it was 2018, but keep your eyes open.

We have a brownies compressor on the 116 I started running last year and just had it serviced last month as well as getting the two tanks hydro’ed. also bought a new hooka rig

Glad I did as I had a stab fin malfunction and jammed fully out. Spent an hour under the boat getting it freed happy to have the hooka. Refilled the bottle afterward.
