  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
46' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1974 - 1981)
We went through a straight line wind event last weekend while underway. Our enclosure gave up the ghost while we were on the flybridge. It's pretty dramatic when you're focused on running the boat in those conditions and EZ2C panels start breaking. But anyway, we obviously are in need of a new enclosure.

I have a great canvas guy that has always taken care of us and is very talented. I plan on going back with EZ2C or a similar product on 3 sides and eisenglass on the back corners and back just like the one that was on it. We had 3 panels in the front and 1 swung up to the electronics box to run with it open. We just used the 3 sides in the spring, summer and fall.

Has anyone done anything on their enclosure that they see as a must have that may not be the norm?

No help on your questions but several years ago during a storm I watched a mini tornado come across the Elks across the water from us. Headed straight for us but was falling apart as it crossed the water. But still when it got to the MadHatter the whole enclose collapsed in an instant. I'm sure the look on my face was priceless.

Have always had zippered vents between the top and glass for ventilation in the front panels. Next time would like to add them to the sides also.

While all of the panels are off I had 2 weld cracks repaired that were there when I got the boat. Does anyone know what paint Hatteras put on the framework for the tops? It's silver and almost has a metalflake look in some lighting. Or was that done when the boat was re-painted?

I was told its merely rustoleum aluminum oil base straight out of the can and painted onto the welds. Thats from Ocean Marine Fabricating, the guys who made my half tower.

Rustoleum aluminum is what I was going to try. Thanks
