  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
On a 71 53MY have the standard 300/200 bow stern fuel tanks. Most of my running this season will be short 60 mi roundtrip in 2-3 seas . What is the best ratio of fuel to keep on board given pump is 10' from my boat and I can fuel at anytime. Better to fill bow?stern? combo. Assuming 1.5 gals at 13knts I guess I would hold 250 gallons at a time. Have a floscan.

Its will be my first season so I am unfamiliar with the running stability with the tanks and see no reason to fill them and add several 1000lbs in fuel for short trips and fuel readily available unless stability in running is a factor?

thx

Kevin

if your just doing light cruising in nice weather, stabilty is a non-issue. if your concerned how the boat sits in the water just look at the water line and adjust from there. full or empty you probably wont change its trim by more than 1.5''. generally speaking, fixed weights were positioned aft where the planing surface is. consumables, like fuel and water, were positioned forward so that trim tabs can adjust when there is more or less weight there. put the fuel in whatever tank makes you feel best about the trim. fast boats that need to get on plane quickly...rear mounted engines and center fuel tanks. displacement boats...center and low mounted everything. ever see a boat with the engine in the front? theres a reason why! lol
