  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' MOTOR YACHT (1964 - 1968)
We have 1969 50' Hatteras MY. We live on the boat and will be in FL.
What is the best bottom paint to use?

I was told by the paint manuf. that I should first barrier coat the bottom then put on one coat of ablative bottom paint of a different color than the finish coat. (for instance if you want a blue bottom put the first coat on red) Then put on two coats of the final color of ablative paint. The reason for two colors is that ablative wears away and is effective until it is gone. When you can see the red paint it is time to recoat. This way you know when to repaint and you have a little buffer of time because the red undercoat is antifouling.
Let me know what you think.

Without a doubt, Interlux Micron 66 is the best. I never went for the two color bit. It is obvious when you need to repaint without having a two tone bottom.

My boat stays in FL year round and I would recommend also the MICRON 66
