  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' YACHT FISHERMAN (1970 - 1981)
Years ago when it became nearly impossible to get hold of 8VDC batteries, we transformed the 32 vdc system to 36 vdc. The question is can the old sentry charger be modified to charge the 2 banks of now 36 vdc battries ?

How about NO to this question in so many ways.
Eight volt batteries are still available.

I thought about doing that a few years ago but then went with golf cart batteries instead. There are adjustment inside the charger to change the cut in and cut out voltage. You already have the batteries try cranking the charger up. If I remember correctly the adjustments are on a board on the right side once you remove the cover. You’ll probably need to get up to about 43volts cut out.

I ve never had any issues finding 8 volt batteries. Plenty of options from golf cart to rolls.

Using 36 volts is not the solution.

If the batteries haven't been charged in years, then they are probably no good now.:)

He is in Venezuela.

Hell, you probably can't find batteries or food.

That is exactly THE PROBLEM I do my boating in Hell`s waiting room ( Venezuela) . 8 volt batteries are the least of my problems so we had to improvise. Thanks for the advise setting up the charger. I will let you all know how it went. !
