Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
I did ask this question on "the other post" but then thought, maybe others wonder the same thing.
What books should one have on board. Dr Jim and Karl will mention different ones (like on the anchor chains thread on the Hatt list). Both of them seem to have a long list they post on, so why not put them here so come Xmas time (or to be PC, the Holiday Season) we can have the Admirals, kids and grandkids buy them for us.
OH, and please list books that have lots of pictures for Randy.... :D

Hmmm.....

if you like amazing non-fiction, go get "Adrift: 76 Days Lost at Sea" by Steven Callahan. Absolutely incredible tale of his surviving the sinking of his (sail)boat and stuck in a life raft for 76 days. http://www.amazon.com/Adrift-Seventy-Days-Lost-Sea/dp/0345410157

"117 Days Adrift" by Maurice and maralyn Bailey is a pretty gripping tale too. http://www.amazon.com/117-Days-Adri...0924486317/ref=pd_sim_b_2/103-7757376-2331833

Both books are an amazing testimony of the human spirit and the will to live.

Another book that is really good, but hard to find is "Betrayed: Murder in the bahamas"

If you can find it, it is worth the read.

Hey, I like pictures as much as the next guy. However, unlike some of the other members on this site, I threw away the "how to" books on some things a long time ago! :D

Hey Doug, zap this guy would ya? He's poking fun at me, I know he is. I know you're reading this cause you zapped me this morning (with my permission I may add).

I still want to be bar tender so I can zap people too! How bout it there OmnipotentBubba? At least give me the title. I figure I've earned it!

Hey Pat, you reckon I should publish the "family" book we talked about earlier today? I could preview it on this forum to see what kind of reviews it gets!

"The Riddle Of THe Sands" by Robert Erskine Childers

"American Classic" (the book about Jack Hargrave)

"The Only Way To Cross" John Maxtone-Graham, about ocean liners

There is also a book about the SS United States written by her prior captain, Leroy Alexanderson. If anyone finds a copy, please let me know. It is out of print and someone borrowed mine and never returned it, years ago. I'd like to have it again.

Randy,

I am not sure that you want to have this forum preview that book :D

There are two books which I think should be included in all NW yacht libraries, but I'm a bit biased as I wrote both.

"The Early Exploration of Inalnd Washington Waters" and "With Vancouver in Inland Washington Waters."

Dick

A Vet the next door down just brought me a book he just got published. It is a western story, "Trail Hand" by R.W. Stone. It is published by Thomson/Gale. It is a good read.....

For divers, shadow divers and operation drumbeat. Both excelent reads. Bill

All of the Patrick O'Brien series of books about Jack Aubrey and his adventures. You coulnd't ask for a better seafaring read! Read them in order and then keep them onboard in your bookshelf!

" Whatever happened to Joe Merchant" -- Jimmy Buffet. Itll put you in the mood for sure. At least for some Keys and Bahamas cruising. ws
