  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' LRC (1975 - 1981)
As a continuation of the "Pizzazz Sold" thread, I just wanted to chime in and say
That Kismet sold last week! She will take on a new name and has gone to a great new owner whom has had many previous Hatts. I know he'll love her and she's in great hands.

So it appears well priced Hatteras's, listed with knowledgeable brokers (Eric sold mine) are finding ready and able buyers. Thanks to Eric for making the deal happen!

Our quest begins for our next boat, but we're in no hurry. With travel plans abroad most of the summer, it appears I'll be scouring the BoatTrader and Yachtworld sites for months to come. "What's next?" Honestly I don't really know. Something smaller and much faster, that's or sure. There just aren't enough free weekends to "cruise", so getting from Point A to Point B as fast as possible is a determining factor. Hopefully the list will include a Hatteras as I've loved this site and the helpful people here. I've made many friends here. Some I've met and enjoyed a few dinners and cocktails with, others via phone or email...but you're all part of my family now.

I'll continue to frequent the forum on occasion and contribute my limited knowledge if possible.

All the best,
Jeff

When I repowered my 46C is was for the very same reason you stated. I wanted more speed to get me where I wanted to go for weekend cruising. For us, running 100-120NM each way for the weekend is much different at 22kts than it is at 15kts. That extra 2.5hrs means you can leave early and still have a good part of the day once you arrive. Compare that to your 7.5-8kt cruise and your options really open up at a 20-30kt cruise. Don't go too small. You can only run fast in most of the little ones when the weather is flat.

I agree completely. And you are in the lower Bay where it tends to be rougher. The 58LRC is so large and complex that you can "downsize" to a convertible or YF in the 45-50 range and still feel like the boat is far less to manage, a lot faster, and can get you out where you want to be and home very quickly. Most of these boats will cruise 24knots- about three times the speed of the LRC. They burn more, but they will get you out where you want to go and home very quickly.

You can hang around here regardless of what you buy, but of course I would like to see you get another Hatteras.....

Jeff tells me that he is focused on trailer-able boats that will give him the flexibility for fishing both the Chesapeake and the OBX, then be able to take her home and put her in the barn.

In an interesting small world story - "Kismet" sold to the first buyer who looked at her (by an hour). The second buyer to look at her ended up purchasing "Pizzazz".

I think the title of thread should be changed. "GOOD WELL PRICED boats are selling".

I'm looking too...but those two requirements combined together are not shown in asking prices.

SeaEric made a great point. The extra nice boats have been flying off the shelves! There has been more market activity this year than the past 8 years combined. There are more buyers than American made quality boats available...or at least the ones worth buying. There is a huge shortage of good product right now. It amazes me how many owners think their boat is nice, when it really isn't.

There hasn't been a better time in recent memory to get a better price...unless your boat doesn't measure up to the price you're asking.

And if you look at Eric's listings they're priced right. I know I have one of the nicer 65SF out there based on many that I've seen. If I were to sell it I'd be priced below 75% of the listings. Not because I'm looking to dump it but because I'm realistic about what it's worth. There's a 65 in Texas owned by a hofer. Very custom and in Bristol condition. He's priced we'll below others that don't even come close to his. I doubt he'll be able to replace it but he knows if he wants to sell it the price needs to be reasonable

I know Jeff wants a trailerable boat etc. We'll see. I'm hoping he buys a mid-size Hatteras convertible, but then again it isn't my money to spend.....too bad there are no trailerable Hatteras yachts. :)

We'll see what's in the cards. No telling!
Next one just may well be a Hatt!

We were bumming around Southport one weekend and saw an "in the water" boat show. Used boats mostly. As we entered every boat we were shocked at the condition of the inside. They smell like potty and mold, not to meantion dirty. We could tell they were neglected. It seems the owners lost interest for some reason. It's a shame that one out of ten looked good. I wouldnt touch one of those fixer uppers, unless I could get it for next to nothing. Then finding the time for making it water ready would be very hard. I think most people on the HOF wouldnt let this happen.

Yes, unfortunately as the values of boats have dropped, the cost of labor and parts to work on them has NOT dropped, so they become a proportionately higher cost of the overall project. A fancy way of saying that you don't get your money back out, and thus an incentive to keep your older boat looking as clean and Bristol as possible, and running as well as it can.

Posted before I get out of the house and go wash my boat.....

With the proper equipment "Dually Pickup and a Custom Trailer" a Hatteras 32C with a Bimini Top would be very trailerable, NOT easily, But it is trailerable and with a 12 Ft or less beam you dont need a chase vehicle, just a wide load sticker and a permit. This isnt Ideal for everyday trailering purposes but for a few times a year move from NJ to OBX it's very possible. Ive towed larger boats from FL. to the N.E. and back many times for clients safely with my F-350, you just have to take your time and be careful. Somthing to Think About. "JUST SAYING"

If I'm back in a Hatteras, I won't be trailering...even if I could! :)

Just put my 28' SF project Hatt on a trailer last week. I sold my storage building and had to move her. I modified an old dozer trailer and loaded 'er up. Put on some shrink wrap and brought her to a buddy's yard with my dually, towed great! I wish I had taken some pictures of the truck/trailer combo.
I hated to bring her to outside storage again because it just feels like one step closer to never getting her finished. Anyone interested in a 28' SF project? Bring your dually and drag 'er home! Howardhatt trailer 003.webp

Did this boat come from Maryland? Former owner named Holt? Power was a pair of old Cummins - maybe 504's? Purchased on ebay?

Wow, Eric, I'm impressed! I think you have the PO's name right, the guy owned a marine electronics shop I think. The boat came from Kent Island Yacht Yard as I recall. I bought her on Ebay and later sold the Cummins to a guy in Canada and bought two Steyr diesels. With your amazing knowledge base regarding almost everything Hatteras, perhaps you could point a worthy new owner in her direction. Best, Howard

Just in case this jogs loose a few more memory cells.... hatt trailer 004.webp

Asking price? Sounds like an interesting project.

I am often amused when people put things up for sale, particularly boats, and say something like "XX thousand invested" instead of "xx thousand poured down a rabbit hole" so I'm not even going to go there. Let's just say I know more now than I did then and an education can be expensive. I have the two Steyr diesels, one of which is purported to run and the other is purported to be complete, the hull which is a 28 SF, one of approximately 30 built, and the quad axle trailer which goes down the road very nicely. I'd like to get $5 grand but will entertain offers. What I'd really like would be for Tugboat Willie to adopt me and help me finish the ole girl. I'd even entertain a partner. It'd just be a shame to not do something good with her. I had dreams of putting "Man Hatt'n'" across the transom. Maybe someday, somehow. Willie, whaddya think? Or should I say 'Dad'? Howard, in beautiful west Michigan

Where's the flying bridge- didn't these boats have one?
