  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I have a Garmin chartplotter and separate Garmin GMI 10 instruments all of which are hooked into a NMEA 2000 backbone. To that backbone is also hooked a GPS antenna and a DST transducer.
So the question to you Garmin (Scott) experts is: Does the speed read-out on the plotter and the instruments show the GPS speed or the speed indicated by the transducer?
Is there a way to show the values from both inputs for redundancy?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for adding your hull number Gary.

Usually the transducer speed is only used for tracking speed through the current as in fishing or sailing. The default is the GPS. What unit is the MFD and what software is it running?

The Plotter is a Garmin GPS Map 4212. I'm not sure what software is running on it, other than the way it came from the factory.
So, based on your reply, I take it that the only output from the transducer that is used is the depth and temperature.
If the GPS ever malfunctioned, would the MFD then automatically take the speed reading from the transducer?

It should have a data box setup for the speed. It can be set to SOG as long as the GPS is working.

Thanks Scott

I do get the speed read-out on the MFD. It's just that I was just wondering if the MFD was getting its data from the GPS or the transducer, but you mentioned that it defaults to the GPS.

It should default to GPS.
