I'm glad they were rescued.......I am glad they had enough food and water purification onboard to last a year....BUT

No Sat phone?

They said they called daily but were not close enough to other vessels or shore stations to be heard.

What the hell were they using? They didn't have a Sat phone or SSB? For that kind of voyage it would be as important as food.

The very short story didn't say anything about what kind of comms they had.

Maybe they wanted to get lost.

It’s hreat that they made it out of that alive. Now I’m not an experienced sailer and don’t pretend to be but. I saw the video of when they wer rescinded and the main sail looked somewhat in tack. In the report it said that a spreader broke. Isn’t there a way to rig up a sail huck fin style to be able to make some type of headway.

A broken spreader shouldnt have prevented them to get a few knots and make landfall somewhere. Thousands of sailors have rigged booms into masts

Glad the dogs were saved.

Five months worth of food? Good thing they know how to fish. Going across oceans you would think you would have duplicate emergency equipment for cases like this. Lucky 🍀 they are alive.

Story has to be BS. Look at them and the dogs. They look like they left port 2 days ago, not 5 months ago.

Bloboaters have run that scam before. Who was the English guy that claimed a solo circumnavigation but only sailed in circles for a few months and came back.

Maybe they started with a lot more dogs.

Notice in the video the hull is all encrusted but the bottom paint is spotless. Also, what broken spreader. There are two spreaders showing in the video. Which one was broken?

Apparently didn't have an EPIRB either.

They probably spent all their cash on dogfood and pot. None left for safety gear.

Yeah I'm calling BS !! Story don't add up.

Smells like fish more than Ron Jeremy's mustache.

I had the same reaction when I saw the film of the " rescue". There's another story here yet to be told.

Watch, Hallmark will make a move about this soon. Those girls looked like they just stepped out of Mc Donald’s after eating there for 5 months. To much meet on those bones.

When I first heard about them, I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, but when I read in the Canadian press today that they said they would have died within 24 hours if they hadn't been rescued, I had the same thought as Seven about them looking like they just came from MacDonald's and they lost all credibility with me.
It's even reported that they were within 2 miles of land at one point and were in contact with some people, but still couldn't make it into the harbour of one of the islands. OMG. Their seamanship leaves a lot to be desired (sorry - seawomanship).

News item today that they had an "emergency beacon" (I assume this is an EPIRB) and didn't activate it.... interesting to see what comes next.

And they went through a storm NOAA knows nothing about...

I saw they want to recover that boat and do the trip again. I say charge them for the "rescue", charge them for the boat recovery, let them go, but confiscate the dogs. Say the dogs may be harboring some kind of canine offshore virus than can be transmitted to indigenous populations. 6 month quarantine minimum.

I've got it.

Save everyone the trouble, and expense of a repeat. Quarantine the girls for 6 months, for the same above reason, let the pups go.

The younger woman had only known the Captain a week before setting sail, and had never been on a boat...the Captain claims she lost her cell phone overboard..day 1.. Saw a press conference with the Captain all lovie dovie with her crew...my guess is her crew was an unknowing captive for 5 months.
