  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Can the collective knowledge and experience here please offer suggestions for a thorough boat and diesel surveyor for the Wilmington NC area?

Please don't shun me because I "married" from the wrong side of the tracks, but..... we have a contract on a beauty of a 58 Bertram convertible. She's not a Hatt, but...she wants to be! It is a perfect boat for our budget, lifestyle and cruising needs. Your help in getting her surveyed is greatly appreciated.

Don't worry about it not being a Hatteras. We have several members here who own non Hatts. Many here have owned Bertrams and all of us respect the quality and legend the older boats have. Not sure if it's a concern but if I remember correctly the 58 has an aluminum superstructure. Make sure the paint is good and there's no significant corrosion there. Best of luck and welcome!

I just installed electronics on a 58 Bert my. Big boat and not bad to work on. It has a folding arch on the bridge for the electronics. Overall a nice vessel .

I know this boat. Its has a cool history too. I was thinking about moving to Wilmington from Southport so I talked with the owner and dockmaster of the marina downtown. The cockpit is like a dance floor thats huge. The boat was featured in the movie Weekend at Bernie's and again ironman and a couple others I forget. One day the wind was blowing really bad so he couldnt set the anchor to start filming. My friends sailboat was working too. Wilmington has a pretty good movie studio and they always need extras and boats. I also was down in Beaufort, SC touring off our boat when I met the original owner of the Bertram (small world). I told her how cool of a boat it was and she was happy it was being well taken care of . I'm wondering why the owner is selling because I know he really loved the boat. Hope his health is OK. As far as an engine survey, there's only one guy that I would trust in Wilmington. His name is Eric Ryjewski, (ski) for short. He is a mechanical Engineer and great mechanic which has his own machine shop. He also holds some US Patents for an outdrive he designed. His number is 910-471-2870. I have him in my speed dial and have bugged him too much probably. He has diagnosed some issues even over the phone. I have met one guy that traveled from the NE down to Wilmington just to have this guy help him with his Detroits. Anything else you want to know? You came to the right place at this Forum. Ha ha

x2 on Ski. He is a great mechanic.

I don't know Ski but captddis is a great mechanic, owns a Hatt and used to own a Bertram so this would be a very reliable endorsement.

Oh Yeah, Please dont change the name of the boat. Naught Naughty is very cool. I would love to tell people I own The " Naughty Naught". Its a house hold name. Ha.

I don't know Ski, but he has a good reputation. He posts frequently on the Trawler Forum and seems very knowledgable. For hull surveyor, I believe Rob Eberle would travel to Wilmington, I was impressed by his approach when he surveyed my old boat for its new owners. (252) 633-4280

Thank you so much. She is a very special boat. We feel honored and lucky to now have her in our care. We won't change anything which deters from her original beauty, and keeping her in top condition (all that teak and those hand carved sailfish on every cabinet...) will be a labor of love. I will private message you in regards to the current /soon to be previous owner. Thank you again for the info on Ski. We are at FLIBS, but will give him a call tomorrow!

No. Its been "Naughty Naughty" since launch. I think it'd be very bad mojo to change her name now. HOWEVER! Let me warn you against doing a google search for "naughty naughty"....you won't get pictures of the boat....
