  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Looks like I've got a bad element on one of my engines (getting power but does not heat up). Was there a standard unit back in the day? Engines are 8v71TIs. I have the block heaters that heat the coolant and the element is at the front of the engine. Thoughts on sources for the part?

I have 2 sets of new block heaters. What size hole is in your block?

I will have to find out. I had the marina's shop look at it since I am stuck at work. They are pretty good at turning wrenches but not so great with finding parts for our older boats. :(

Same question for me - one of my block heaters quit last season due to an internal short - blows the breaker now when turned on. Disconnect the wire at the heater and turn on switch and breaker doesn't trip so it's obviously the heater itself.

I'm 3000 miles from the boat but would be interested in a set of heaters also - 8V71TI and same location as Storms so I assume that the block hole size is the same as his. When he determines that and if the heaters are the correct size, I would purchase one of the sets if you are selling both sets.

RPM Diesel in Ft. Lauderdale is where I got mine. They had them in stock.

Just a thought, I had the same symptoms and diagnosis drove me crazy as it turned out the problem was in the connector on the end of the cable - it only shorted when it was plugged in! The insulation had hardened and cracked over the years allowing the metal parts to touch when plugged in. The element was fine.

How about trying the Detroit dealer, you may even get the right part the first time.

Wolverine pan heaters

Well that might be to easy?

That would take work. You have be able to follow directions. If you don't warm the pan, sand it, etc as directed, they will not stick. Way too much effort
