  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I have a blackwater cleanout located on the port side of the bow deck near the windlass. Following the green flexible hose, it is hooked to a large holding tank below the forward stateroom. I also have a second holding tank located in the starboard engine room with a second cleanout located on the outside of the walkway next to the starboard salon window. Both holding tanks are plumbed with pumps and overboard valves. Showers/sinks grey water does not empty into the holding tanks. I do not see any connection between the two. It appears that the forward day head is the only thing connected to what I perceive is a very large tank. The master and VIP heads both are connected to the starboard tank. I know from a past experience that approx. 100 gal were pumped out of the forward tank and around 30 from the starboard tank. I need to add some sort of level indicator to these tanks as there is none. Does anyone know the capacity of these tanks? I can't find any Hatteras documentation on this setup.

On my '73 58YF the forward tank is called out as 90 gallons I use this ar a holding tank. The tank in the starboard ER is 60 gallons, I use this tank as a water tank.

What you've described is exactly how my boat is set up, there's two holding tanks with one on centerline that only the forward head uses, then the two toilets that everybody actually uses empty into the off-center tank. I hate this arrangement because when it starts getting full it makes the boat list to starboard. Every other tank is centerline so once you balance the balance the boat you don't have to mess with it again...except for this one. Mine is how it came from the factory.

Thanks for the capacities. My Owner's Manual is surprisingly devoid of this info. Curious, my manual lists for the 58 YF models that there are two fresh water tanks, the transom one at 145 gal. and one under the starboard forward cabin bunk at 100 gal. Was your starboard holding tank converted?

The PO of my boat converted that forward tank to a fuel tank that I now use just for the generator. I had to remove the tank in the engine room when I installed the stabilizers. We installed a new holding tank outboard in the generator room. I have a portable pump that I can transfer fuel from the fwd tank to the main tanks if needed.

My 1979 has 105 in the V berth and 60 in the generator room starboard side. However both pump outs are on the starboard side near the side door.

We're on a 1986 54'MY, and according to the one time I got an answer from Hatteras, and a tank diagram, my one centerline holding tank is 120 gallons. The owners manual for our boat is long gone, and Hatteras was NOT forthcoming when I asked about availability of a replacement.
