Has anyone tried bio-diesel? I have seen a few trucks around South Florida with the stickers. Also does anyone have a fuel burn chart with RPM and speed for a 53?

Jim,

Some years back I told a guy that, because of the USS North Carolina moored (grounded) in the Cape Fear River Wilmington has never come under attack. Well I have an idea that perhaps without the USS NC Wilmington may still never come under attack.

That said, I do however use biocide regularly, but sparingly. I can only say that my fuel "looks" cleaner than a buddy's Marine Trader who doesen't. And though I do moderate cruising (very moderate turn-over of fuel) my racors last about a year.

This does not preclude a rough weather event! Other prudent fellow boaters (2 incidents - years appart) each have had to change out recors midway accross Lake Michigan due to heavy seas and the churning of fuel in the tanks. (A) They were doing the great circle and were regularly refueling. (B) I do not know if they were utilizing a biocide. Hard to argue that boating daily in itself is going to prevent the build up of unacceptable levels of algae.

Smells like frenchfries :D . I looked in to doing it with the 43 which had 671n's but I can not do it with the 60'er due to capacity(1500gal). I have talked with folks who mix it with regular diesel, something like 25% bio and 75% regular. It works, it is cheaper and no taxes(yet). If it were me and I could fuel my boat from the dock and I had a long trip I would use it. My understanding is it will gell up in the cold and it is best not to let it sit.

I use it and make the stuff. works well. They just did a study in motorboat mag. no difference in performance or fuel burn. I wanted to use it in my boat this year but, well as some of you know on motor was hijacked. I paln on using it next year on a limmited basis.. I have done a thread on this before so you can look it up for more info.

In the Sams brochure section is a fuel burn chart for a 53EDMY. It is in the boat test article and it seems to match up pretty well with what others have posted for fuel burn with 53MY's. It is for the 6v92, I believe, but the 8v71's are almost identical in burn rate in this boat.
