Has anyone come up with (or even care about) a better way to seal the access panels that are located in the shower compartments?

Today I was installing a new water tank sensor/gauge and in running the sensor wire, had all the panels in the heads and showers open to run the wire. I noticed that the lower portion of the shower access panels are quite wet and that there is water getting behind the panels and dripping into the bilges.

I was thinking of maybe making new panels, slightly oversize, out of starboard or something like that, laying a bead of silicone on the back side of the panel, letting it cure and then screwing the panels back in place.

Any other thoughts, ideas, or solutions?

It's important to note that nothing sticks to starboard. Of course nothing truly sticks to silicone either.

I had to cut an access hole in my shower to get to the clamps holding the toilet hose. I made a cover from 1/16" acrylic painted the same color. I painted the back side so it never gets wet. I used a bead of silicone around the edge and it looks like the day I put it in 9 years ago. The acrylic was left over from when I made panels for my bridge. I still have plenty left over if you want to try it for your panel. Ron
