Happy B-day, Byron. And thanks for that anchoring article.

Happy Birthday .

Well, THANKS guys! MUCH appreciated. I felt very fortunate to have some "Sam's Marine/Hatteras Love" this morning when I got an email from Doug saying Happy Birthday. I feel special!

Yachtsmanbill, we are indeed getting ready for BullRun this year! We start in Montreal, CA and end up in Key West, FL in May '07. The stakes are high this year after we, a rookie team we came in and placed so well. I'm even trying to get my boat down there a little early before my Bahamas trip in June to relax on after all the craziness of BullRun. We are updating some of the scanners/electronics in the car but mostly the big update to the car is what cost us the race last year--FUEL (or lack thereof)! We are having a 40+ gallon fuel cell made to install in the trunk. That 625hp V12TT only gets about 10.5mpg at sustained speeds of 150mph, so we had a little over 200 mile range. We only came in 3rd place last year because the 1st and 2nd place teams had done BullRun the year before and already had fuel cells in their cars for '06 and had 600+ mile range! No prob, this year we are READY!

Thats only four hours between pit stops anyway! I'd need a break after a white knucklin' edge of the seat spin like that too!! Is that V - a twin turbo? Whats yer pyrometer run at? Best 2 ya and the stanchions! LOL ws

We only stop for one thing--FUEL! No time for bathrooms, largemouth sports drink bottles with good screw-on tops are your best friend. Yep, V12 Twin Turbo. Mercedes set the stock HP at 493, but we had it "massaged" to a real dyno proven 625hp and 745tq. We keep the EGT's just under meltdown! Actually the software bleeds off boost and retards timing if the EGT's get a little warm.

If I did this right, here's a shot of the cluster with the cruise control set at 156mph. Notice the outside temp on the bottom left--it reads 102 degrees! Sure glad we had good A/C and ventilated seats while cruising through the desert to keep our cool!

This will cheer all the birthday boys up-- glad it couldnt happen here!

> Last summer, down on Lake Isabella, located in the high desert, an hour east of Bakersfield, Ca. some folks, new to b oating, were having a problem. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't get their brand new 22 foot boat to go with speed. It was very sluggish in almost every maneuver no matter how much power they applied. After about an hour of trying to make it go, they putted into a nearby marina thinking someone there may be able to tell them what was wrong. A thorough topside check revealed everything to be in perfect working condition. The engine ran fine, the out-drive went up and down, and the propeller was the correct size and pitch. So, one of the marina guys jumped in the water to check underneath. He came up choking on water, he was laughing so hard. Now remember this is true:
> Under the boat, still strapped securely in place, was the trailer!

I did have a pal-- Bill "RIP" Thorne who backed up to the ramp and got out of his car to launch the boat and left the car in NUETRAL! Keep yer mind on the task at hand... ws
