  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Afternoon All:

I could have posted this question somewhere else, but all the best Hatteras minds hang out here!

Having just sold my 52 Convertible, I am considering a move down to a 43. Powerboat Guide says that the 43 had the engine room air intakes moved to under the cockpit coaming, yet this vessel that I have been considering is listed as a 43' model from 1981. Note the air intakes on the sides.

I guess this is a technical question! Does anyone have any input?

Thanks,

43’ Series II models had vents on the side but production did not start until 1991 I believe. Either wrong year listed or may have been added on.

HATBK3720581 is the serial number, and best I can tell, it's a 43' (BK) from May of 81. These must be add on's, I guess. That makes me wonder.....Why?

Those look like Slane Marine vents. If that's the case they are not original.

I have a '79 43C. The vents are under the gunwales in the cockpit.

BTW, the cockpit is a bit tight on a 43. The 45 was an identical boat but with 2 more feet of cockpit that I wish I had.

Does it have 6v-92's or was there a re power? They might have added the additional ventilation during a rebuild or repower.

Those are Tom's vents. I haven't seen any others that look like them.

If I were looking at a 43C, I'd look at a Series II 45c, built from (about) 85 to 91, I Or a 46C, the first one. Two of the best boats Hatteras ever made.

The 43 that was extended to 45 is a dog. The 45 runs faster with the same power. The 43 made in the 90's is a completely different boat with a vastly superior interior layout. It's not light, though and takes some HP to push (a guy on here has one with m11's).
