Hi All,

Doing some deck resurfacing and I'm looking for a non-skid additive that IS NOT gritty. Hate that stuff.

A marina mate of mine that I knew a few years ago added something that created what I can best describe as tiny dimples in the surface. Gave you the traction but not the look and painful feel.

I have tried a few but all with the same gritty results.

Before I go broke trying additives, I thought I might ask "youse guys" for ideas.

I have used Awlgrip Griptex with great results. They have three texures, fine, coarse and extra coarse. I have sprayed it through a paint gun as well as rolled it. Spraying it gives a very nice even finish.

I used a 50/50 mix of fine and course in the cockpit on the 36C. It came out great, and wasn't too rough.

It might fall into the "gritty" category though.

I used the griptex fine on my steps to the flybridge. It is very fine but still provides traction without feeling too gritty.

I used Awl grip fine particles mixed with two part polyurethane in cockpit. Used a paint gun with 2 mil nozzle, sprayed from the hip at 30 psi, waited about 5 hours then sprayed another sealing coat of just paint using a 1.7 mil nozzle. worked great.

I have Algrip with shark skin. Don't mix the shark skin into the paint. The process is to roll (or spray) the Algrip and immediately dust on the shark skin using a spray gun (dry powder). Blow off the excess dust when it is dry, and roll on a top coat. It cleans well and is a very fine non-skid finish maybe similar to 220 grit sand paper. You can't slip bare foot on a soapy deck.

I'm going to throw my vote to Pettit 9900. I've used this product and it is probably the finest grit (spheres) I've seen. Produces a nonskid that is comfortable under bare feet and can be cleaned without problem. Its a paint additive type. It is finer than the awlgrip.

I agree Pettit uses a round polymer bead, not only does it help prevent bloody knees , it holds the paint better as it does nto have sharp edges that cut through the paint film.

they make a ready to apply product called EZ decks and Ive used the booster from the easypoxy 2 part in it and it works perfect .
