  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
I want to replace my alternator and raw water pump belts.

Working on the water pumps currently. Belt is a Gates 8319 Extra Service v belt...

Going to stop by NAPA and see what they can find for me, but, I can't find that belt anywhere online?

I have a pedestal mounted Jabsco 7240 hanging on the front of a 6-71.

Couple of things - 1) just a suggestion, I carried 2 complete sets of belts for each engine. In order to preserve them, the Admiral used a food-saver to vacuum-seal each set into it's own bag, which I labeled with belt ID numbers, date of purchase (so I'd use oldest first), and what they were in plain English. For determining what belts I needed, I actually was able to use the Gates numbers on my belts.

Second thing - Link to Gates website - Gates US

Third thing - It's a cross-reference tool for Gates belts. Gates V-Belt Cross Reference | Gates Belt Conversion Charts (vbeltsupply.com)

I
would have put the link first but for some reason when I paste a link, the forum makes everything I type after it clickable as well. Sorry!

Part of the problem is that they are actually 8419, not 8319..!

lol

I could not read the numbers on the belts on my port engine, but the ones on the starboard were nearly new. Port ones looked like they just had poor printing... PO had replaced both sets pre-survey. I actually measured, pulled port belts, matched with starboard, then ordered spares. So I feel your pain.

McMaster Carr has nearly every belt ever made and if not they have a custom belt manufacturing process You can order just one custom belt if that’s all that’s needed

NAPA had what I was looking for. They are cogged instead of smooth now, but both of their interchange items were, I assume that is okay.

Can't do everything at once, so, this is a mechanical item that I got to this year and I am trying to build up my inventory on spares and stuff.

I got so much stuff with this boat, and, I realized a while back that I am not going to use much of it...

Most of the "spares" are the ones they took off, etc, so... Lots of little things like this to track down.

Next, alternator belts!

I had cogged belts on mine, and they ran fine. Napa is a good source, one of my old Coastie friends swears by them - He's a DD mechanic now, and a general vendor.

I use Napa's 40w oil, relabeled Valvoline. always available, clean, and affordable.
