I just added this problem to my shaft packing thread, but figured it should be a seperate thread. Our owners manual for our 36 idetifies the forward battery as port engine/ house, and the rear battery as starboard engine/ gen set start. I am almost sure that is the way our boat was when we were in Detroit. Last month I had to use the parrellel start switch to get port to crank. I knew that battery was pretty old so I replaced it. I still had the same problem. Last weekend we removed the ground lead from that forward battery and turned a cabin light on. Huh!!!, not possible. So I cranked the port engine. Yup, it cranked but the starboard did not. Our batteries are reversed from the book for sure, but I still think they were not like that. It must be this damn salt water eh? The cables cannot be phisically switched at the batteries. Now if I could solve our electrolysis problem this boat would be perfect. Damn that salt water.
