Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Was going thru Ebay today and found a 3000W Power inverter with 4 gfci outlets for $299 from AIMS Power . The few marine ones I saw were "repaired by the factory" and more expensive. I have space at the front of my ER for the batteries and could easily mount the inverter in the galley along side the refrig as there's room a run of maybe 6' of wire, or in the ER...It will only be used mainly for the refrig and coffee maker... But AM looking at getting beer keg stand too (that would take priority !) The item is 320886926744...
Don't need a 3000w but why not if the price is right... bigger is better in this case

If it is not a true sine wave forget it. You don't want to replace the refrigerator because the compressor motor burns out. A good inverter/charger made for marine use is probably different in more ways than you can imagine. I just put 2 inverters in a customers boat to give him 6000 watts total on both legs of his power so he has 110 and 220 with 70 amps of 24 volt charging on each.

We had a modified Sine Wave inverter on our previous boat and it didn't play nice with the microwave, the TV, or the computer. TV and computer had a lot of hash/interference looking patterns. Elec clocks (or anything with an elec clock in it) didn't keep time.

Worked fine for the coffee maker but that was about it. I think that despite the price difference, a full sine wave inverter is the way to go simply because it produces the power "configuration" that all domestic electrical appliances expect.

I have a freedom 30 on my boat, modified sine, and it worked fine with everything except for a noise in some fans. The fridge never had an issue in years and thousands of hours Even the TVs (older tubes) and directTV receivers worked fine

That said the price difference between true sine and modified has shrunk and when I replace the now defunct freedom it will be with a true wine inverter

The big difference between a marine and non marine inverter is that a marine inverter bonds N to G in inverter mode.

"it will be with a true wine inverter"

Does a wine inverter turn wine into vinegar or back into grape juice? :)

If its not a dedicated direct-wired unit, you should probably forget it. Those plug-in units are not for marine use and I'm sure they wouldn't pass an insurance survey. Do as you like, but the marine units cost more for a reason.
