Hatteras Model
74' COCKPIT MY (1995 - 1999)
Well, it looks like I might have spoken too soon on having no damage from Irma. It appears as if the battery charger on my bridge used exclusively to charge the 4D battery 12v battery on the bridge which itself is used exclusively for my bridge electronics appears dead. I am having it looked at this week hoping it might just be an internal fuse but if that is not the case, I was hoping someone had a suggestion for a new battery charger. As I sit here 1200 miles from the boat, I do not recall what charger I have but I think it is probably a Charles. It simply plugs in to a power strip with a standard 120v plug. The battery is a 4D putting out 12volts. Hence, there is only one bank to charge. Also, I do not know what amperage the electronics draw but I suspect the radar, plus all of the other instruments can add up. Also, this battery and thus battery charger is used for the linear actuator that raises and lowers the heavy hatch to the bridge. Any suggestions for a single bank, ? amp, plug in charger would be appreciated.

On many larger vessel the electronics are served with a 12 or 24 volt charger that is GMDSS rated. If your vessel require GMDSS replace with one that is rated to cover your insurance requirements.

If not I would look at a simple 30 or 40 amp charger that can have a remote panel added to make it easier to check on the batteries. Since its running a good sized load for the electronics one that's power to supply rated too.

PM me if you woukd like some prices on the victron products.

Scott - thanks for the suggestions. Once I hear the outcome of the work next week, I'll know which way I need to go. But, with that said, you think I need at least a 30 or 40 amp charger for the electronics?

Get a list of what you have and we can figure out it's nominal draw.

Why guess when you can know.

Thanks. I'll know more next week including what charger I have now. As far as I know, it was OEM (1996) and has worked well up to now. However, when I bought the boat in 10/12, a new bridge battery was installed. That only lasted five years so I am guessing a circa 1996 was not a smart charger. The existing battery is being slow charged now with a portable charger to see if the old charger killed the battery as well.

Scott- sent you a pm.

Does anyone have Scott's cell on the Hattitude?
