I need new batteries. 1978 MY 32 volt. What suggestions and advice can
you give me. Your response will be greatly appreciated.

The subject of 32v battery replacement has been discussed at length on this forum and there are several schools of thought. I'll offer a quick synopsis:

Rolls batteries are hands down the best, will last the longest and will cost the most.

Interstate Battery makes a model 8V195 with amazing amp hours in a slightly smaller/lighter battery than Deka or other 8v batteries. These can be ordered though your local interstate dealer and is an excellent solution.

Change to golf cart batteries for their smaller size and light weight but lose some capacity that theoretically shouldn't be needed until you lose prime on one or more detroits and need the extra battery power for continuous cranking.

Search 32v and read some of the old threads and you'll see all the variations of what I've briefly stated above.

GOOD LUCK!

ARGH ! not another battery thread ! :-)

seriously, here is a good thread on batteries which will give you additional info on the 3 options mentioned by 3H...

i'll just mention that if you loose prime on your DDs, the Golf Cart batteries will not be your concern but the starters getting REAL hot... It's happened to me a few times and the GC batteries were cranking just fine after i re primed with an electric pump...

I had trouble getting an engine started just once. My golf cart batteries never failed me or even gave a hint that they were thinkin' about it. I can run all my DC loads for at least three days (probably longer) without charging; however, I do not yet have an inverter, so my DC load that I frequently use consists of pumps, heads, lights and electronics. That's probably not a big load.

Maybe one of these battery threads should be moved to the FAQ section.
