  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Now that I have fixed my generator I have wasted at least 2 of my 4 batteries running the inverter.

I have DD 671 Ns and have four 12v. 8Ds I believe and have used the Interstate brand in the past. (cost mainly)

Any advice would be appreciated. I think I will put these 2 new ones on the bank that starts the Genset to make sure enough juice on hand to start using the other bank as the house set. These new ones I might go with deep cycle and use it most of the time with the inverter. Should these go down I will use the battery selector switch at the helm to toggle back and forth to start engines with fresh bank.

Should I go with deep cycle for inverter use and swap batteries around if necessary to have appropriate banks as indicated.

No interest in playing any golf or this arrangement, thanks.

Any advise on set-up and or place to buy. I am not excited with the big 8 Ds either if smaller battery will do the job.

Interstate has a few 8d versions and they are quite different.

This is the 1400 CCA heavy duty one I use.

It's only a few dollars more than the lower CCA one and worth it.

Before we left to do the Great Loop on our 43' DCMY I had a 2500 watt inverter system installed. We configured the system to charge the batteries either from the engine alternators while underway or from the generator. We used four Interstate Workaholic 8-D's for the house. We anchored out five nights of seven anywhere from eight to 12 hours per night. The batteries had ample power to run two refrigerators, an ice maker, all the 120V lights and TV all night long. We never ran out of power.

We use Interstate 4-D's to start the CAT 3126 engines and a group 24 to start the Westerbeke 7.6KW generator. Everything is set up with isolators and combiners. I did have two of the 8-D's go bad, but I simply pulled into a marina, called Interstate and they delivered new ones, no questions asked. I have had no problems since.
