Batteries

I've read all the threads on batteries, battery choices, etc., etc. and it is all good stuff. Am pretty sure that I'm not going to go with the golf cart (GC) batteries, but based on the majority of the posting owners on the forum will go with a Deka or Interstate type of solution. I have a 1970 53MY with two banks of four 8V195 type batteries. One bank for each engine and either bank can be aligned to run the house load. Does anybody know of a reliable, reputable source to buy batteries in the Baltimore/Annapolis/DC area? Boat is in Deale, MD. I live in Alexandria, VA. Have called around to a few places and have found some batteries, but now looking to deal with somebody I can trust who has treated our members well.

You can special order them through your local West Marine store. They'll be delievered by the local East Penn distributor.

Just give the store associate the 8V195 part number for a special order.

Not sure if you can save any money going to a local distributor but by going to WM you will get a bunch of West Advantage points and you may be able negotiate a good deal since I assume you'll be purchasing a quantity of 8. Work directly with the store manager and ask him to consider giving you the Port Supply Store price!

Try Intersate Batteries in Lorton, Va. That's where the PO bought the ones I have on board now. 703 339 0707. You might also try Best Battery in Baltimore. 410-342-8060, not sure if they sell these,maybe they can get them. Best is also a source for getting starters and alternators rebuilt, I had them do one of my alts after I bought the boat.
