  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I had dinner with a bunch of people recently returned from the Abacos
I was shocked to be told a cocktail at the Abaco Inn is now $20 plus tax plus tip I fear they will price out boaters at these prices
I think they are now catering for the wealthy centre console crowd

Many Bahamians think money grow in boat bilges.

Ironically, I do believe many Bahamians actually do grow money.

I have spent a great deal of time in the bildges of boats, I never saw any money growing. Normally it is shrinking.

I recently paid $50 for a double Angel's Envy Rye at a restaurant in FLL. It's getting more and more expensive to be a drunk.

I paid $20 for a case of Busch Light on Friday night. If you break it down by the can it is still cheaper than the dollar a bottle water sitting in the cooler next to it. I don't know how I can scale down any lower as Natural Light was the same price.

Plus tax plus tip?
Tip and tax already in or less tax and tip?

I caught boat harbor doing this to me one night, auto tip buried in the fine print of a chitty thermal printer receipt.
Service sucked that night., Server with a wet finger and smudged the bottom of my tab.
The bottom of my friends tab was torn off short, total hand written on top.
We were wondering WTF and how to tip when we realized it (to dam much) was already in the tab.
Never went back there again.

This was before the big storm.

Around here in Vero Beach any decent restaurant is getting $12 for a cocktail so $20 in the Bahamas isn’t surprising. Everywhere you go since January 21 results in sticker shock.

Best to load up on happy hour prices
Six bucks a cocktail in the best bars in Jupiter

Enjoying the aft deck on your boat, a good deal. Buy not priceless.

Bar prices exceed Diesel Fuel cost first time in history. LOL

Have you been to Champlins out in Block Island lately? A $50 won't cover 3 mudslides and a respectable tip.

Anchored out, Not another boat in sight, Grill burning something, Cases of ABC hooch down below, Pink sky in another wonderful sunset.
This is priceless.
Overall, we rarely tie up and dwell in a marina, restaurant or bar. Usually disappointed when we do.
We do miss the specials at the Jib Room. Never abused there.
Hope they rebuilt back with their same attitude.

Our last year wintering in the Bahamas (Fall 15 - Spring 16) boldly put the writing on the wall. Destination weddings and other events were closing our favorite places on a regular basis. Then there were the lawyers etc. that came in and dropped cash on the table to garner service over everyone else. If there was an event and you had a dinner at the place you could expect to be booted from your table so others could come in as soon as your dinner was just about finished.
And this was during the dead of Winter.
In Feb of '18 we were over on Elbow and service was awful, the places were crowded and accomodations were hurting (generators that were supposed to be installed and running at rentals were out of service).
The Abacos became very popular to all sorts, not just boaters and the Bahamians latched on to it. Then Dorian whacked them back into the Neandrethal age giving them an excuse to raise prices yet again.
This along with insurance was all it took for us to throw in the towel. Sadly this increase in costs has found its way to the U.S..

You are not kidding! We spend a lot of time at Block. Watching how much money people of all ages will spend to catch a buzz is just insane. Two summers back, we took several younger people out for a work trip. They were all flat broke by Sunday. One spent nearly a grand at Ballards in 24 hours. If we don't pack it, we don't buy it.

25-year-old Pappy Old Van Winkle, a super-rare bourbon that comes at a premium cost: $315 for a 1-ounce shot. It's featured on an upcoming episode of CNBC's “Secret Lives of the Super Rich.”

My neighbor had a bottle given to him by a co-worker. The guy doesn't like bourbon and it was given to him so he just handed it over the neighbor. He had no idea what it was.

You guys are drinking at the wrong venues.

Stewarts Conch Shack, Bimini. 2 Sands Beers for $5. If headed to Grand Bahama, take a $10 brewery tour. At the end of the tour you can sample all their beers at no extra charge. The rest of the day was a bit of a blur.
