is it ok to leave on or is necessary to turn off at breaker panel when away for extended periods of time the pump says automatic so it should trun its self on / off when demand is called upon . advice appercited

If you are using tank water, you can leave pump on if you want. You run the risk of a water pipe breaking or leaking somewhere. If that happens you will pump the contents of your water tank through the broken hose and will end up in the bilge. Depending where the leak is, the water may ruin things along the way. i.e. Wood floors in galley. When the tank empties then your pump runs dry. That may damage some pumps. One good thing is that you can't sink the boat with water you already have onboard in tanks. NEVER leave dockside water hooked up while away.

I think best practice is to flip breakers off while away for extended periods.

thanks that answard my question

Concur. I have found it best just to shut it off. If you do, you should shut off the water heater and any automatic icemakers as well.

The ice maker(s) will not make ice with out water pressure.
Besides, do you shut the water off at your home?
