  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
61' MOTOR YACHT (1980 - 1985)
Hello everyone. Well, "Miss Mary Alma" is now at home in her new slip at the Sheraton Marina in New Bern, NC. I am hoping that some of you may be able to provide references in the area to competent and trustworthy technicians, so that when we do need work to be performed on the boat, I can give them a call--perhaps some moonlighting Hatteras employees. At this point, we want to complete some interior work, including new carpet, wallpaper and such, a few minor engine matters, and trim tab maintenance. Although winters are very mild here, I would also like to get an aft deck enclosure in the next couple of months, and have some minor fiberglass repairs.

Since arriving from Ft. Lauderdale after a six day trip in late August, we have really fallen in love with the place, as we knew we would. We have great neighbors, a great marina staff, and this is a fine town--friendly and helpful all around, with some great restaurants! Even though my wife and I grew up in a small town, after living in Tampa, Miami, and Knoxville, Tennessee, over the last 30 some years, we're experiencing minor adjustments. Two things, however, which have surprized us somewhat are the large number of tourists that come here and the more than a few transient boat owners coming in and out. Any Hatt owners in the marina or area at large, feel free to PM me as we'd be very pleased to meet you! :)

The view east out the aft doors and windows of our saloon would please even the most avid critic--a fantastic vista across the Trent to the other side of the Neuse River, even though somewhat obstructed by the swing bridge, and to the left along the 900' face dock is always a variety of spanking new Hatts to admire. They are beauts, being primpted for their new owners! Well, you get the picture.

Many thanks!
Paul

Paul,

Welcome to New Bern. I have been here all my life and love it. A good person to contact about working on Hatteras' boats is Tom Wynn and his cell is 252-670-4662. Hope this helps and hope to meet you someday.

Paul,

what a great area. Wish I could keep my boat there. Maybe someday.

Met a guy last year named Jack Heines. Happens that he was plant engineer at Hatteras for 15-20 some years. Jack now works with his son Dennis who is a certified marine surveyor. They both live in the New Bern area (Trent Woods???). I've no doubt that they know absolutely everyone who is remotly capable of working on boats in the area. Not to mention Jarrett Bay just down the river on Adams Creek above Morehead City.

Dennis' business number is 252-671-2002 (I think he would not have a problem with my giving this out on this particular forum).

Good luck,

Capt'n Bill

Paul,
Welcome to New Bern. I live just up the Trent River, and I drive across the bridge many times a day as I work downtown. I saw the big Hatt in the slip as I crossed the bridge -must be a tight fit over there. I have lived in NB entire life. Have redone four Hatts and three other makes over the past 30 years of boating. Just recently sold my 1987 58MY Destiny, which you may have seen in the marina. We're on the hunt for another now. I know quite a few folks around town that can do "anything" you need done to your vessel, and would be happy to share phone numbers. Feel free to email me at tom@diamondinc.us.

Jimmy, Skip, Fred, Capt'n Bill and Tom,

Thanks very much for responding to me post. I will definitely be calling you guys!! Hope not to make a pest of myself.

I need some interior woodwork repair in the master salon at the transom where the two hatches have leaked, and to remove and reseat the hatches (which I can probably do myself, but not the woodwork). The PO represented that they had been repaired, but on the way up from Ft. Lauderdale, they leaked a good deal and the wall is a mess. Wife is wanting new carpet, wallpaper, and upholstery work. Got a bunch of other small projects where I'll need help, but will take them one at a time. I'll be buying some new electronics at the FLIB and will need someone to install them, as well as repair/replace my trim tabs.

It is great to get your responses and hope to meet each of you soon! Our boat is at the Sheraton Marina.

Let me know if there is anything I can help you with!

Again, many, many thanks,

Paul
