Good evening all,
Just a quick question re Lumaline bulbs.
Lumaline bulbs were used in many Hatteras main cabins. They look like short fluorescent bulbs, but are in fact incandescent and out of production many years ago.
I was wondering if anyone had tried putting a dimmer switch on these? These 'stock' bulbs are getting harder to find, and as a result are running as high as $60. (!) I could test one, but if it fails I'm out a bulb and a bunch of cash.

Any thoughts are appreciated,
Sailor John

Yes. I have a dimmer on mine.

Thanks Kevin,
I appreciate the confirmation!

Why not just switch to the CREE bulbs you can get at Home Depot? They are LED and if you get the dimmable ones they will work on a 32 volt system.

Thanks Johnjen,
I have yet to find a direct replacement for the Lumiline bulbs.
I guess at some point I will have to replace them, as the Lumilines become less and less available and more and more expensive. (Ebay has them selling now for $80 a bulb! I should probably list the few I have in reserve and make some money!).
I have LEDs through the boat now with a few exceptions. I am quite happy with them all, esp. the ones with a 'warmer' light.
I have been working on a Rayline searchlight LED replacement bulb too. Mixed results there, but a work in porgress.

The Lumaline are the only non-led lights left for me. I like them in the salon because for some reason which I have been unable to determine, bugs aren't attracted to them. I have a couple spare bulbs and will change them over when I run out of spares. Should have purchased more when the bulbs were readily available about 10 years back.
