  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' TRIPLE CABIN (1970 - 1976)
I tried the link you have in your post, and it came up to a page not found error.

What are the specifics on the Hatt?

Try the second one Dwayne.

Don't know the boat, but gas? Fiberglass fuel tanks need replacing? Some $$ there.

Jeff, another member brought up the tank issue in a PM. Are these later model Hatts equipped with the same type of fiberglass tanks as the older ones?

I've never been on this particular model of Hatt, so I have no idea what would be involved with tank replacement. In the case of my 41 (which is also a gasser), it's never had ethanol in the tanks as my marina hasn't had to go with it yet. I have no idea what the ethanol situation is up north where this boat is.

Supposedly the resin switch happened mid 1985 or thereabouts. If that is true, then the tanks on a 1987 should be ethanol resistant.

I had an 87 40 with the ethanol resistant tanks. Might be ok however check with Hatteras to find out for sure.

Thanks guys, I relayed the info to my friend about this tank issue and did in fact suggest he call Hatteras. Hopefully another member will have first hand knowledge of this particular boat. As for "ethanol resistant", does that mean spending money to replace these tanks is just further down the road than is the case with the older boats or does it mean that they will in fact not be affected by a 10% ethanol blend?

It sounds like the use of "fire resistant" vs "fireproof" in the safe business. To wit, there's no such thing as fireproof. Maybe they're anticipating a higher blend which could/would affect the tank and are afraid to refer to them as "ethanol proof".
