  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
I just got word that the runway is closed @ MYES Staniel cay. Can anybody confirm that? Or maybe have a number that can tell me for sure.

Thanks,

Russ:cool:

I'm not there, but a fellow charteryacht owner/operator who is there says, "Heads up, Staniel Cay Airport SHUT DOWN, due to runway issues. All flights redirected to Black Point, next cay south.‪ #‎stanielcay‬ ‪#‎exumahappy‬ ‪#‎bahamareached‬"

Tim: do you fly?

Call Watermaker Air in Fort Lauderdale.

Nassau papers yesterday say closed for repairs, done with no notice. Height of the season. Flights to Black Point. Never fear--authorities are "mobilizing."

We re at Staniel right now and yes the RWY is closed for repairs. Watermakers and Flamingo are flying out of black point and there is a water shuttle to transfer passengers.

This is causing quite a stir, a few days ago there was an announcement on 16 for a meeting between residents, visitors, elected officials etc to discuss the issue. In typical Staniel fashion, the meeting was to be held ...on the beach :)

Speaking of runways, Normans has jsut been extended to 5000' although the Extention has not been official opened yet. The resort and marina (in the pond near the south end of the rwy) project appears to be moving along and they will have customs at some point.

Finally, anyone flying this way got to check out Ty's Sunset Bar n Grill on Little farmers, just 18 miles south of Staniel. Great place... The front door is just a few step from the rwy and if you come by boat you have plenty of depth to anchor off the beach. Great food.

That is sad news. I always enjoyed the uninhabited feel of that island.

I wonder if they bothered to dredge or place markers for the westerly approach. Also I wonder what is to become of the old yacht club on the hill and all of those abandoned buildings. Please share in detail of you know more about Norman's Cay.

I haven't seen any markers and I don't think they will out any. Both ends of th cut are deep and easy to read, the western entrance is pretty wide too.

So far some of the old buildings are still standing but I m sure they ll be torn down. Yes, it s a another page being turned and I m glad I got to explore the cay before the development. All these bullet holes were pretty cool...
