My boat is getting close to going back in the water. The guy who did my seals a few years ago in Ft. lauderdale was supposed to fly up this week to do them again and backed out. Now it looks like I can't get him to reschedule. I'm needing to get it done soon but can't find any nearby qualified people. Anyone know someone?

The boat is at Aqua Yacht. They have done seals before and if I buy the removal tool and everything needed will do it again but do not have the experience or expertise to determine if they need anything other than seals. I am concerned if there was any water intrusion that it be taken care of properly.

I know a person that is very responsible. He changed all the seals and did a complete maintanence to my Naiad two years ago. He is located in Ft lauderdale, his name is Joe Smith 772 260 0038.

Look at Sky's last post. You might be able to do it yourself with the instructions he posted.

There is no reason that any decent yard can't do this work. Any mechanic can change a couple of seals. Its really not that difficult.

If it's been done every 3 years chances are water has not gotten in. After 8 years I had to replace bearings and races due to water intrusion. Time consuming and heavy work. Look closely at the top plate inside. Water intrusion will show up as streaks of rust, or even water. If clean and dry chances are new seals will do the trick. The bearings are packed with grease that lasts indefinitely provided water stays out.

Lee Spry is an excellent full service commercial yard near Aqua.. I'd bet they can do it.

I bought her in Ft Lauderdale three years ago and had them done there. At the time the guy who did it wasn't all the way sure the grease was still good. I suspect it had been a little overdue. He sent pictures to NAIAD and they said it was fine. But because of that I have concerns this time around. Aqua Yacht said if I buy the tools they can replace the seals or perhaps I could do it myself with the instructions above but neither of us do it often enough to realize if it perhaps needs more than just a seal replacement. I have been trying to get the same guy to fly here to do it again but he has proven to be unreliable. He said he would come last week and didn't make it. Now he was supposed to come tomorrow but not returning my calls or texts. I am not sure how they would feel about someone from Lee Spry coming over. I can get cheap flights from Lauderdale to Nashville. I'll try Joe Smith. I'm getting close to ready to go back in the water and time is getting short to get this done. Thanks for the responses. Please let me know if there are any other ideas.

My only suggestion is do them prior to relaunch. With a helper, you can do them with basic mechanical knowledge.

So what if there are signs of water intrusion and emulsified grease?

Thank you everybody for the input.

I ended up calling Joe and he came last week and took care of the seals and changed the oil to the system while he was at it. Seems like a good guy and was real easy to work with. And he seems willing to travel. Thanks so much for the referral. I may consider buying the required tools to do the job myself but a lot off yards won't let you work on your own boat so likely i'll see him again.
