  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
38' DOUBLE CABIN (1967 - 1971)
Hi Guys,

I'm heading to Miami at the end of the week, and will by making the obligatory pilgrimage to SAM's.

However, the new old boat needs a lot of stuff, ranging from ropes and accessories which are less HATT specific.

Considering the extensive restoration project, I need to keep costs down. So I'm looking for a discount outlet (ie not WM pricing). Also, since I'll only be in the area for a few days, it would be great to find a single shop with lots of stuff to avoid hours/days of driving around the congested Greater Miami Area.

The boat also needs new upholstery on matress pads - I'm bringing along the old ones as a template, if you know a good upholster thx in advance!

Going down to the Keys to pick up a used Radar, so anything on the road there is good too.

Thanks for our suggestions.

Hey Rich--- get up to Lauderdale and Ft Pierce for the two BIG used / surplus boat stuff stores. A lot of buyout stuff from defunct builders etc. ABSOLUTELY worth planning an entire day around. Make sure you take a BUNCH of measurements before you go and make a shopping list.
MOPESTER also showed me a VERY DECENT boat salvage store near Providence RI. WELL worth the trip there sometime if your up there. ws

Florida Discounters

Hi Bill,

Appreciate the tip - remember the name or address? Can't spend forever meandering around South Florida, but a dedicated day sounds good.

Cheers,

Richard

You do the search--- Marine Liquidators on US1 in Fort Pierce just north of town and the other is Sailorman on about 27th st. (?) just west of US1 a few blocks.
DREAM BIG !! ws

Try the following in Ft. Lauderdale and they are both on State Road 84,
otherwise known as SE/SW 24th Street.

They are Boat Owner's Warehouse at 311 SW 24th ST and Sailorman is about 4 blocks east on the same street. Extremely easy to get to from Sam's.

Boat Owners's Warehouse isn't bad. I've bought a LOT of stuff there over the years when I'm down that way. Better deals than WM and if you're buying a LOT of stuff they will often negotiate.

Hate to admit this but.........

West Marine is having a sale on the Taylor made fenders and I know the cost of these things. Not sure how long the sale is going on but the pricing is good .

In Miami there's River Marine Supply located next to the miami river and just off I-95. River Marine is like a Home Depot for marine related stuff. your mileage may vary but their prices are about average.

Nera Dinner Key Marina and co-located with Monty's Marina and restraunt is Hopkins-Carter. Nice folks, nice place and they will reduce prices for you. there are several other Hopkins -Carter stores in the area also, I just don't know where. The one i mentioned is in Coconut Grove and next to the Miami City hall.

I'm liking Hopkins-Carter these days, too. Any reason to boycott WM unless I have a popped fender, which the tally is up to 4, working on 5, these days.......she's a very heavy boat! And when the wind blows, they pop like airbubble packaging!

Today, my neighbor, a fulltime captain for the big Ferretti, told me about "Richmond Marine" very near the downtown area (8th St., near Publix and I-95, he said), though I haven't visited it yet.

As with any place, you have to shop what you're looking for. Hopkins-Carter - probably not the cheapest place in South Florida on every item, but cheaper than WM and very convenient for me here in Miami when I need something NOW or tomorrow. But, light bulbs, for example....I order those online from www.atlantalightbulbs.com where I can get 32V stuff that WM sells for $7.50 each for $1.20 each. Yeah, I gotta buy 10 bulbs at once....OK, twist my arm! I use those all over the boat!

Hey Ang,

I think "Richmond Marine" is "River Marine." :)
They are the cheapest (most of the time). Hopkins Carter is sometimes reffered to as "Hopkins Cartier" (how much is that?) over here on the beach, but they are very nice guys...And they are located here at the marina. They get lots and lots of my money...

River Marine makes more sense. When he said Richmond Marine, I told him I had never heard of it. I need to go and check out River Marine. :)

Boating supply stores near MIAMI

Zoweeeee...

Geez guys & gals - great tips of cool places to buy boating stuff. A badger brush and foam roller will also be needed for the deck paint.

All I'm missing now is a good upholsterer. :(

Thanks!

Richard

Richard,

You can't be missing anything down there for you are in the land of boating, USA. ANYTHING can be found between Palm Beach and Miami that you could possibly need for a boat, just look around.

When you say upholsterer, do you mean canvas makers for things such as pads/pillows, etc? The very best canvas makers are down there. If you need any canvas work done I highly recommend EZ2CY. It is one guy who bought several of the smaller canvas shops in South FL and he is doing an excellent job of price/quality/timeframe for a particular job. I had him do my soft top cover and windshield cover in Stamoid and it is flawless.

Good Luck!

I appreciate the suggestion - os EZ2CY here in the forum or do you have his coordinates? My more urgent need is for pads & pillows - he might have somebody he recommends - and later I'll be needing real canvas work. Thanks for his phone and or contact info.

Cheers,

Richard
