  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
The shed here at Hartge's is in major trouble and it would not surprise me if it comes down or if the building inspector condemns it. After the first February blizzard they discovered one beam nearly cracked in half (big crack). They put up a wooden support pole (4x4) to brace it...then had to add a second when another crack in another beam was found...more have been found for days now...from the looks of it..the seconds storm with the heavy snow was jsut to much...there are now at least 6-8 temporary support poles. No word on when the real repairs will begin...sure glad I'm not under the shed...

any boats left under it?

We used to shovel the darn snow off sheds at RVYC in Vancouver, particularly before it rained, and made the snow even heavier. Never had a shelter come down in the forty years that I know about.

What is wrong with these marina people that leave the snow up there? Having shoveled the snow off shelters myself, I just don't get it.

Marina vs Yacht Club may be the answer.

Yup, every single slip is full. There's even an elderly full-time live aboard whose boat is almost right under one of the cracked beams.

Exactly...and this is most definitely a marina...an one that is in deep financial trouble right now...all maintenance/repairs seem to be curtailed...which i part of the reason Im out of here when my contract ends in April.

Eek....

I used to live in the "Great White North" and there were times we had to go up on roofs and remove the snow accumulation "or else."

This is rare for the east coast - it's been what - 20 years since this sort of snow has fallen up there? I used to get darn tired of it in NW Michigan - there was a few-year period where 6-12" of new snow seemed to fall EVERY NIGHT, and for obvious reasons that turned into a big problem if you didn't take care of it.

80" of snow so far this winter at the local airport...our yearly average is 18.2"...so yeah, this winter is extreme. They said on the news, this is a once in 250 years winter.

But we do get a dumping every few years, but its usually under 24". Our last BIG dumping was Valentines Day 2007...14".
