Hi All,

Thought I would ask the group for help and get us focused on fixing boat parts and distracted from the whining and bitching going on lately.

What is this? I am rebuilding my Rayline searchlight and have found replacements for most of the internal parts but I need to know what this does. its 32 volt coming in and I think 32 volt going out to the bulb. I cannot find any part number. I can't provide the Rayline searchlight model number as its corroded off so I have been doing a lot of searching based on photos and older threads to try and find answers. The light is a total rebuild. I have parts sent off to be re-chromed and I'm trying to re-build the internals while its out for refinishing.

And yes, I do know what the bulb holder is, Need to know what the white thingy is.

Appreciate the help.

Looks like a relay. One set of the tabs on the base takes low amperage power from your spotlight "on" switch to a solenoid (a magnetic coil) which, when energised pulls down a much bigger set of contacts that can take the heavy amperage required by the spotlight's bulb. If you energise it you should be able to hear it click as the contact closes. You will need a relay that takes your battery voltage (probably 12 or 32 volts) and connects to your spotlight voltage (probably 12, 32, or even 110 volts).

Jim,

You are spot on. I didn't think it was a relay as it didn't have enough terminals to indicate that. I tore it apart after work to look inside. There were only three wires coming into the dome section so I didn't think it was a relay, but inside there were definitely terminals for coil and load side. So now I need to see if anyone has an internal wiring diagram. Best I can tell is that there is only 32 volts coming into the dome. In the base of the light there is a 32v to 12v converter. I am wondering now if 12v was used to switch the coil allowing 32v thru the contacts to the bulb.

Any wiring diagrams would be helpful.

Thanks

I think all of their lights had 12v controls. They just put converters in from other voltages to get 12v for the controls. So, I think you are probably correct. The relay probably has 12v in to switch the 32v load (bulb).
