Hatteras Model
53' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1983 - 1988)
For three seasons now I have fought with a forward holding tank that I could not pump or could barely get some out with miss use of the pumpout by building up pressure. I studied many threads and conversed with some of you separately for possible sources of the problem and thank you all. I put off changing the pick up pipe (not an easy job at first thought) and then it dawned on me that mine was already plastic .... thanks Sky. AND THEN the PO came clean and mentioned he also had problems and thought it had something to do with a valve at the MID TANK. Mid Tank? Tought to get to. Sure enough someone wanted to be able to pump overboard both tanks and therefore connected both pumpout hoses, right at the mid tank. No shut off valve was included. Overboard pump is in bow and there is a valve to block out the hose going to the deck plate (ultimately the mid tank) or another valve to block the forward tank, which allowed pumping either tank overboard with the bow through hull. Today we took out the valve and separated the two pumpout hoses and PRESTO ...... the marina pump cart can empty either tank. I love it!

Glad you figured it out, Byron. It figures that it was some bright idea by a previous owner that caused the problem.

Byron:

I had a similar issue. The vented loop to the pump caused a problem with "weaker" pump out stations. Need a valve to close the line and make sure it is completely sealed.

Glad you found the issue. Too bad we never talked.
