Another head with an issue. This one is fresh water filled. I'd like more water to remain in the bowl after each flush. Flushing continuously with the spring loaded silver button or the green timed button makes no difference in the amount of water left in the bowl after each flush. Mechanic is thinking of changing to a solenoid with a larger orifice or perhaps putting a timer on the solenoid so it stays open longer. Not sure either is a good solution. Also, for reasons only known to the PO, the intake for the head is plumbed to the hot water system. When the water comes in, most times it comes in with flecks of black stuff, not sewage, but not pretty to floating in an otherwise clean bowl. Any ideas how to get a higher fill height or get rid of the black stuff, or better yet, both?

Latest idea is to convert the head back to OEM salt water. The strainer and through hull are right next to the pump in the ER and that way, no more hot water intake and no more gunk feeding into the head. It should also get the bowl level to the direct level-----I think.

Head properly connected to non-hot water side of the fresh water system. At least that is resolved. Also, according to RAZ, water level in bowl is a function of gravity and cannot be altered.

Has it always been that way? Or is this something new?

I think that is correct although, on occasion, after flushing, our guest head will not refill beyond a point at the very base of the bowl. I'd guess this happens less than 5% of the time but it does happen. Sometimes it will do it twice in a row and then refill to normal levels for the next month or two without doing that. I have never thought about what actually causes the bowl to fill but since the pump doesn't continue to operate after the flush, it seems that bowl filling would occur based on the amount of water left in the hose "above" the head at the end of the flush cycle. That, in turn, is determined by the run of the hose.

IOW, perhaps the amount of fill could be changed by changing the length of the hose above the head. BUT, the head will self empty down to a certain level regardless of how much water you put in. If I fill one of the heads with water, the level will drop down to the "normal" level, just as a home toilet will. But between the limit of "normal" level and too low, it SEEMS to me that the water in the feed hose would determine that.

This is just speculation. There might be some other mechanism at work here.
