  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
Is anyone out there using 8v golf cart batteries exclusively?

Yes. Its all thats available in Australia. The are 170ah versions.

1 x 32v bank in starboard engine room. No problems in 4.5 years. Faultless.

2 x 32 volt banks paralleled in starboard. This gets used by the house and has recently been showing signs of age. I even have an electronic sulphating system connected which i think works.

All batteries have a great watering system. Analytic Systems 32 volt charger for all banks... faultless.

Not to hijack your post but I'm now on a roll.....

The port banks are paralleled at studs on wall, but I seem to have unbalanced amperage flowing from each bank when using clamp meter. Bank A discharging at 7 amps and bank B discharging at 3 amps. This i don't understand. Maybe cables? Cable lengths? terminations? Same for negative side. I would have thought both banks should discharge equally. What do I look for?

I am really wanting to change as much of house usage to dedicated Lithium battery bank, but need to work out how to remove or realocate the 32 volt wiring from the silver panels. This would allow me to get rid of 4 x 8 volt batteries in starboard engine room.

I guess like me your ready to replace some big 8d 8v batteries. I did a search here and got some ideas but I have yet to make a decision. My stbd bank is 5-7yo and is not holding charge so this weekend I'm gonna have a look and hopefully make it thru this season. When I get blocked for winter I'll have the marina pull the old batteries thru the bow hatch using the forklift. Trying to do it in my slip would be a ball breaker.

Thanks for the reply's. US Battery makes an 8v AGM with 183 AMH. Like the idea of made in USA and AGM. There is a dealer in Wilmington NC that is about 90 miles away. If they have enough in stock, I'll be making a drive there next week. I may also pick up the US Battery 12V AGM group 31 for my windlass project while I'm there.

BTW US Battery has several distributors in Australia.

Update - it would take weeks to source the US Batteries, so I just ordered the Trojan 890 flooded batteries with a total AMP of 190 and should have them by Tuesday. Total cost for 8, about $1700. I'll just have to make sure I check the water levels frequently!

I have 12 Trojan 170Amp 8 volt batteries on my 58 galley up Hatteras my

works just fine, 5 years
