Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Was down in Deep Water Cay off of Grand Bahamas (not on my boat) a few weeks ago and saw this Hatteras living on the hook....didn't know if Andeamo was a member of this forum (didn't find name in member list), but thought it was a great example of someone enjoying their Hatt & a great Hatt outifitted for extended cruising.

I wonder why the teak trim was added around the hardtop. Nice looking, though.

Hey Sky , I was wondering the same thing . Never seen that done before. I think it looks good. But more maintenance never thills me. "Someone " painted my aluminium strip and I hate it. In the process of stripping it now. Could be nice to do in wood and paint with 2 Part LP in clear...............Pat

Looks like a 63 Cockpit MY - Nice!

I was in Gasparilla Marina week before last (see my thread Maiden Voyage From Hell), and I saw a 58MY with the most awesome european molded platform I've ever laid eyes on. Molded steps circling down to an over-sized platform. The owners were not onboard, so I couldn't get any info. I was too pissed off at the time to think about taking pictures. Turns out after talking to a mechanic there, these folks were from Tennessee and were going to return there in the near future. Maybe I'll see it up here. I tried tracking them down when I got home, but they had already left the marina. Anybody know this one? Aside from offering them company on my return trip to Tennessee on my 58TC, I'd love to know who did that work and how much it ran. They probably have more in that platform than I do in my whole boat!

Freebird,
I would have to see a photo, but I would bet that was my old boat. I sold it at the Miami show in 1999 to an attorney that lived in the Longboat Key area. It was named the "MAIN EVENT". I have since heard that he later sold it to someone in TN. The boat was a 1985 56MY. I had the Euro Deck custom built by a fellow in the St. Pete area by the name of Ron Cook. He built all of the molds as originals, and made them such that he could duplicate the extension over and over. It extended the bottom by about 3' and that area became an underwater exhaust port which was almost silent. The bubble area on the starb side was the molded circular stairs and the same area to port had a door acces and nice storage locker. I heard that he did several more after mine. The work was done in 1998. It wound up costing about $90,000, but was really nice for cruising in the Abacos. The swim platform was about 7' fore and aft, and was great for loading and unloading from dingy.
I would send a photo, but that was before my digital age.

Hey Tom,

I'll bet it was the same boat. How many could there be like that? Man that platform was a work of art. I just assumed it was a 58MY when I was pulled along side down in Gasparilla (now I know I can look down on him when he comes back to TN if it's a 56!). I knew it was a high dollar conversion, but didn't realize it extended the bottom as well. $90k huh? Does that feller that built it take West Marine credit cards? Maybe I'll just wait till it comes to TN and I'll git one of my shady buddies good and drunk and let him borrow my chainsaw! You reckon that thing will fit on a big john boat?
