This anchor alarm app for cell phones looks pretty cool. Between the depth sounder, radar and GPS plotter, I have sources for anchor watch alarms but nothing with with alarms loud enough to hear from the cabin.

Have any of you folks tried one ?

Will, a baby monitor on the flybridge next to my Furuno with the receiver on the night stand beside me has awakened me on the two times I needed to act.

Interesting idea, but looking at the testimonials....well, plotters don't take that much power, and based on experience, my "smartphone" would need to stay plugged in for this to work overnight. GPS and frequently polling apps take some juice on these devices.

I use a portable garmin by my bed. Much better than trying to hear the main plotter either with remote buzzer or baby monitor since you can see the swinging pattern without getting up ans adjust the alarm radius at will

I don't find cell phone gps to be as accurate anyway

My Garmin chart plotter has an anchor alarm feature. I wired it to a low amp piezo electric alarm from Radio Shack and mounted it in a cabinet on the sundeck of the 48MY. Works great. Very loud and cheap to boot. Just check the power limits on your alarm output.

Good idea, but is this device attached to an outside antennae? Seems a portable would have trouble acquiring a suitable number of satellites from the stateroom??

Both my cell phone and the Magellan hand held GPS work fine in the stateroom of our 43.

no need for an external antenna, it receives fine thru one deck...
