Hello Community and especially Capt Dave:

Hope you all are well!

I was getting ready to change oil in the 8-92's on the 52 Convertible that Dave moved for me a couple years ago. I was thinking about using some additive prior to draining. I haven't run the engines much at all (she mostly sits), so I know they are kinda sludged-up. Probably have some sticky rings too. Would you ever consider using a quality engine additive for diesels prior to an oil change? I've only used Rotella 40 CF2 and heard that I shouldn't use anything else except a straight weight oil that is designed for the 2-strokes. Was wondering if this also applies to using cleaning additives for a short run period.

The product I was looking at is sold as "Stiction Eliminator". It's rather expensive and has some decent reviews.....still I'm dubious!

I trust your advice, so thanks ahead of time.

I'd get them running before adding anything to correct problems you may not have.

See how they run before treating them. Also get them up to temp and put some time on them before you determine their having problems.

If they haven't run in a long time check the racks before starting just to be sure it will shut down.

100% agree with Scott. Don’t fix something if you’re not sure it’s broke.
