  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
60' MOTOR YACHT (1987 - 1989)
What is the best way to remove the aluminum window pulls on the saloon sliding windows? I assume they have to be removed in order for the windows to be taken out of the track. Plan to have the windows tinted and replace the felt at the same time.

There is usually some caulk holding them on. I have cut along the edges with a razor blade, then tapped on them with a putty knife to remove.

Beware: The last time I posted this, I was scolded after another HOFer broke the glass on theirs. But all four of mine came off fine so it must be a matter of what caulk is on there.

Thanks Sky I read your thread responses for window removal but didn’t see the secret trick. I’ll give it a try once we are back home and Bird has signed me off on my single engine Hatteras endorsement. 47.9 hours so far but he thinks I need a little more time.

So what's the problem with the transmission?

[SUP]Starboard transmission is TU. Decide to continue the trip on one. This was to be our shakedown cruise after repairs made related to the purchase agreement. She runs beautifully on one but I hate the stress on the rudder. At least I know the boat will perform if needed if I loose one. I just hope the starboard motor runs as well on our next shake down cruise. My guess is most people hadn’t even thought to shake down one power plant at a time[/SUP]:p

Mine were already off due to Age, Sam's has it in stock. I was doing all new glass any way. But I can see the Razor and putty knife working.

Is that the same trans that had the oil analysis question mark?

One and the same. However the seal was replaced but it seems the pump is starting to fail. My dime, the significant leak as a result of the reinstall of the transmission is on the mechanics dime. It’s always something.

You’re port certified with a bow thruster restriction (one bar with a thruster cluster). You did well, but we’ve gotta get you some starboard time, then we can work on removing that restriction. Next up is crab pot entanglement simulation where you can’t touch the steering wheel or thruster while docking with the starboard only (two bars wrapped with black thread). Then you can make docking great again. It’ll be UGE!

My windows had tape under the pulls , used a board against the windows and tapped the board with a mallet. Be gentle, I cracked one . I got new tape from Waterways Systems in Bradenton FL.
To get the glass out, you may have to jack the frame up in the center, as the frame can settle slightly with age.

Also , did you secure your other propeller shaft during this single engine workout?

No need to remove them. Use a hacksaw blade to gently remove a little (maybe 1/4”) of the pull from the top so the glass can be lifted out. Score it all around all three sides until you can bend it with a plier. It’s soft aluminum.

Or, if you do remove them, cut a little off before you reattach so it won't be in the way next time you lift the glass out.

I plan to take them completely off so I can paint black to match the tint. I like your idea Sky!
