Our Starboard Delco Alternator Voltage Regulator has failed. Low volts at idle, pegs out the voltmeter as I increase RPM's. We're still supporting our 32 Volt house mains.

As luck would have it, Delco has deprecated, or "end-of-lifed" the 32Volt 25Si Alternator and I am having trouble sourcing a voltage regulator for it. Know where i can get one? Let me know?

Ours is the model 1117246, and I'm hoping to locate a NOS Voltage Regulator, and maybe even a re-build kit for the alternator itself. Its wishful thinking, but if not I have sourced a rebuilt 30Si 32V Negative ground alternator if we have to go that way.

Does anyone on here have a 32V 25Si sitting in their barn? Doesn't hurt to ask.

Here's the name plate information:

Delco/Remy Series 25SI: TYPE: 450
Volts: 32
MODEL: 1117246
GND: NEG AMPS: 50
SERIAL: 78A12

On my 1972 53MY, I actually have an original alternator with external regulator. My regulator started putting out 47 volts above idle. My mechanic referred me to a shop in Corpus Christi that had an old identical regulator which he rebuilt for me in one day! He was extremely knowledgeable about the old 32 systems. Might be worth a try.

Try www.morotcityreman.com

They had a replacement 32 volt alternator for our 12v71. It was cheap at US$250 or so. The freight was nearly $400 to us. Ebay often lists regulators for 32 volt alternators.

Thank you for the comments. We found a suitable frame and 32V alternator match on ebay with the help of our DD guru, and local resources to assist with the the rebuild of our 25SI if I go that route so we'll have a working spare.

The regulator on the 25SI is mounted in the back of the alternator, not externally unfortunately like lldks's 1972. Its easier to remove to the alternator and bench it to get at the regulator (for me, anyway!)

Thanks All-

Chuck B.

You could also replace the alternator with am alternator with an internal regulator. If you used a self exited alternator you could eliminate the fuel switch, the external regulator, and the regulator harness.

If you used a 35SI, I did, you would have a brushless alternator.

A huge X2.

Been going to Motor City Reman for years now. Great bunch of guys and they really know their stuff. I'm actually 25 minutes away from them by car so often times I take a starter or alternator to them and walk out with a replacement while I wait.

Needed to replace an original Bosch 45 amp alternator on a 1972 Mercedes a few years ago. Couldn't get an original replacement so these guys hoked me up with a one wire 105 amp Delco and clocked it the same away as the Bosch unit. OMG what difference!

These guys are the real deal.

Try East Coast Battery in Fort Lauderdale.
