Thanks to your expert advice, I traced the dead volt meter back to a failed alternator. I was lucky to have a spare factory rebuilt one in my storage room here in Greece. Both the original and spare are Delco- Remy 32 volts, 60 Amps. Here is my new problem. The old alternator is Model 1117076 and has 3 poles. Positive negative and a third in between which looks to me as a ground. It also has a band around it with a shall metal box secured to it and having two poles. The spare alternator only has two poles. F1 for positive and F2 for negative. No band with the small metal box. According to the Hatteras drawing wire No. 163 goes from the alternator to the starter solenoid and another wire labeled "WHT-BLK" goes to the voltage regulator. My question is; do I install this band with the small metal box on the spare alternator and make the connections as they were on the old alternator or just connect positive to F1 and negative to F2 and leave it at that. This off course would mean there would be no connection to the voltage regulator, field relay, fuel pressure switch and starter solenoid. Does that make sense? Your help and guidance will be greatly appreciated.
