Hatterati,
I have an Algae-X System on board. Fuel flow, pressure, etc are all good to go and I'm not experiencing any issues. I do, however, want to avoid issues rather than fix problems (using brakes rather than airbags). As I am getting ready for the season changing oil, impellers, fuel filters and what not, I am curious regarding the maintenance requirements or recommendations for this system. Any thought would be appreciated.

I have it too, installed by PO. Apparently it works its magic forever, without maintenance of any kind..... hmmmm.

I am a little (actually a lot) sceptic here, but operating under the "It ain't broke so don't touch it (yet)" philosophy.

Never kick a sleeping dawg.

There is nothing to do to Pandora's Box.

It's just a frikin' magnet. What's to maintain?

Other than cleaning it if it gets dirty or clogged, I don't think there's anything TO maintain.

Are they worth it though?

I've never understood how passing a non-polar media (diesel) though a magnet can do anything at all. Unless your fuel has ferrous particles in it (it shouldn't) what is to be gained?

Right there with magnetic treatment for what ails you? IE pseudoscientific alternative
medicine.

In layman terms, Somebody found an other way to take your money.
Find a problem (make up a problem) and sell a fix.

Kind of like politicians...genius.

I have four AlgaeX systems, make me an offer and I’ll ship them for free.

They don't actually seem to do anything. They were the rage for a while, now, not much. There is no scientific explanation for what they supposedly do, but I don't think they do any harm. Unless you happen to mount them near the autopilot compass...

You just may have solved one of my problems. Electronic compass is off on certain headings.... Now i have look at that!

Had a 13 degree variance on a N/S axis with none on an E/W axis (varied between the poles). I caught the source by pure chance one day when I noticed fluxgate moving when port motor ignition circuit was energized-just the circuit, motor not running. Moved compass fwd 3’ and no further problems.

Yeah, it's going to be something like that. Except mine is more like 30º on the N/S. I can live with it, as I know my whiskey compass is pretty accurate and just do the math to come up with an autopilot heading. Just don't link the autopilot to the course as it will make a hard left/right.
