Hatteras Model
46' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1974 - 1981)
Reading through past threads got me thinking. I may be going for a complete paint job this winter. Is it true that slanes vents work, look and preform better ? . Also said maybe gain 1 to 1 1/2 knots ??? any facts to that ??

I got these vents for my boat and like them and would do it again.

staggering if that was true. likely if someone actually received that type of benefit from new venting their boat had clogged holes and staved engines to begin with.

more accurate would be that the appearance is improved and the engine room more dry than before. your timing would be good...

what size boat?

My Old Lady is a 1973 vintage 45C with 8V71TI's.
Put the (Slane) vents in a couple of years ago.
When pulling out the old vents and dryer hoses, they wieghed quite a bit from the Salt Collected. (25+ years worth). That not withstanding.
I did in fact pick up some speed. It was between 1/2 and 1 knot.
Same RPM cruising.

They ARE Worth the effort......(never mind the price ;-)

And as an aside, They Look Great (especially when coupled with the new windows I put in this season, and still haven't quite finished)

Just my $.02

Go with the they air vents!!! They are sexy and let a considerable amount of air in the engine room. I did not see any speed increase from the vents, damn boat is fast enough, but I did see a lack of soot from the engines and genset. Plus you get to look in an area that you probably never have seen and add about three weeks of work to your simple project.

I put mine in this spring. I painted the interior of the vents a dark blue and the exterior icey Blue. Thay came out great.
