Can anyone tell me where the aft stateroom shower sump is located? There is an access hatch in the floor of the head, just inside the door, but nothing underneath it. There is a working shower light/sump switch in the head. There is no access under the head through the engine room because the aft engine room bulkhead is forward of the aft stateroom area. I'm concerned that the PO may have removed the sump and let the shower drain into the bilge.

Bill,

Look on the floor of the large hanging locker, which also gives you access to the back of your electrical panel. Lift the hatch and you will see 2 bilge pumps, one in the bilge and the other in a small shower sump.

Correct...one is in the bilge in the center above the keel, while the pump for the shower sits in a sea chest directly under the shower drain...that's what you have have been standing over these many years!

Also note that your aft cabin AC unit drops it condensate directly into the bilge (if your vessel is old enough), but in the newer vessels the condensate goes into a sea chest for pumping over the side, instead of accumulating in the bilge (where it starts to stink).

This is how mine is.

Mines the same although covered with rug. I cut my rug around it for acess. Bill

Thanks to all who replied. The PO carpeted over all the hatches in the aft stateroom, including the one in the hanging locker. I can feel the ones in the floor where I walk, but not in the locker. That's why I missed it.

If you open the door to the electrical closet in the hanging closet you should be able to grab end of carpet and peel it back into state room exposing hatch no problem, that's what I do.

I rerouted my A/C drain tubing to go directly into the seachest. Then rewired the shower pump and installed a float so it would come on when the water got high which it does quickly in the summertime instead of just when the shower is used.

I rerouted my AC condensate drain so that it drains directly overboard ... got tired of hearing that shower sump pump cut off and on during the night.

I followed your advice and there it was, right where you all said it would be. Good news is that the shower is draining into the sea chest and the pump with auto float is working, pumping the water overboard.. Bad news is that the aft bilge pump isn't. I'll have to fix that tomorrow. I do like the idea of routing the AC drain to the sea chest.
